Our History

“Be the Change You Wish to See In the World”

Mahatma Gandhi

These powerful words by Mahatma Gandhi played a crucial part in the creation of Bring The Change. The power to change the world lies in realizing that change starts from within. Understanding the difference we can make in the lives of people, our founder started Bring The Change in 2019 with the motto to take local steps that will leave global footprints. Based in Reading, Pennsylvania, we focused our efforts on educating and uniting people on various fronts.

Bring the Change was founded by community activist Alexander Civil. His childhood in Haiti, added with his traveling experiences as a young adult through Latin America and Africa helped him realize why many communities were struggling to meet basic needs. In his view, people were too comfortable to sit and wait for the government to step in instead of paving the way to something better. The more he observed, the more the famous quote from John F. Kennedy rang in his head: “And so my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” Mr. Civil wanted to create something that will empower people to change their lives and environment as he realized that “We the people” hold the real power and our destiny. This is why Bring The Change aims to turn people into agents of change for the betterment of their communities.
